Byron Bay International Film Festival

Byron Bay maybe small in population but the same cannot be said for its reputation when it comes to hosting globally acclaimed and popular events including the town’s upcoming International Film Festival running between 18 and 27 October.

I couldn’t think of a more appealing location and time of the year as the backdrop for Australia’s largest regional film festival which continues to grow in stature and attract more and more talented local and overseas independent filmmakers, virtual reality creators, other industry professionals and vitally, very appreciative audiences.

Through the storytelling of film, the event aims to fuse artistry, entertainment and innovation with a focus on raising social, cultural and environmental awareness across all genres.

Despite the relaxed setting of Byron, make no mistake, this Festival is very serious business having earned recognition as an accredited independent award based film event by the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts Awards.

Over the ten day program, patrons will be spoilt for choice with 175 films on show, representing 35 plus countries, across 75 screening sessions at five venues in three regional centres.

Of course, the Festival would not be complete without a glamorous red carpet gala opening and closing night attended by internationally renowned screen legends and complemented with great music and the very best of catering utilising superb local produce and wines.

Significantly, this event is not only about networking and socialising, but education as well, through an offering of masterclasses, panel discussions, workshops, school sessions and a filmmaker’s breakfast.

As the saying goes, ‘you’d have to be living under a rock’ not to know that Byron Bay is a magnet for the rich and famous, including many from the entertainment industry, so it’s a pretty sure bet that you will spot the odd celebrity or two at the Festival.
